The army of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has requested the Senate to revoke former President Joseph Kabila’s immunity from prosecution for allegedly supporting a rebel insurgency in the eastern region. Tensions between Kabila and current President Felix Tshisekedi have escalated, particularly after Kabila’s recent reappearance in DRC and the government’s travel restrictions on his family. Justice Minister Constant Mutamba indicated that prosecuting Kabila could mark a significant step towards justice and breaking the cycle of impunity in the DRC.
