Microsoft goes passwordless by default on new accounts

Microsoft is advancing its passwordless initiative by defaulting new account sign-ups to secure methods such as passkeys and push notifications, eliminating the need for passwords altogether. This change is accompanied by a redesigned sign-in interface for a smoother user experience. Additionally, Microsoft is rebranding “World Password Day” to “World Passkey Day” and reports a significant adoption of passkeys, with nearly a million registered daily and a much higher success rate for sign-ins compared to traditional passwords.
