UN rights chief says civilians ‘trapped in dire conditions’ in and around el-Fasher as RSF warns of further ‘bloodshed’.

The UN reports over 540 deaths in North Darfur amid escalating violence between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), with civilians facing dire conditions in el-Fasher. UN rights chief Volker Turk highlighted alarming incidents, including extrajudicial killings and a recent RSF attack that killed 40 civilians, as fears of further bloodshed grow. The conflict, which began in April 2023, has led to tens of thousands dead and millions displaced, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region.
