A Kiwi with a history of driving offences, Daniel Phillip Hancy, 39, has been deported from Australia after crashing into a motorcyclist and two cars while intoxicated, resulting in significant injuries to one individual. He has been held in a Brisbane immigration detention center pending an appeal regarding his immigration status. However, the Administrative Review Tribunal of Australia upheld the immigration minister’s decision to cancel Hancy’s visa due to his criminal behavior, leading to his imminent return to New Zealand.

Historic ship The Tui ablaze near Waitangi Bridge in Paihia
Firefighters are battling a significant blaze on the historic ship, The Tui, located by the Waitangi Bridge in Paihia, which ignited around 4am. Four fire crews initially responded, with two additional crews dispatched later as the timber ship is reported to be fully ablaze and severely damaged. Fortunately, there were no individuals on board at the time of the fire, and the cause remains under investigation by Fire and Emergency NZ. Full Article
