How war ravaged museums and priceless artefacts

Sudan’s National Museum, once a cultural gem housing priceless artifacts from ancient Nubian civilizations, has suffered extensive damage and looting amidst two years of conflict. With the Sudanese military regaining control from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), tens of thousands of artefacts have been destroyed or stolen, including valuable gold items believed to have been smuggled abroad. Officials, including museum director Ikhlas Abdel Latif Ahmed, describe the looting as a deliberate assault on Sudan’s historical identity, aiming to erase its rich cultural heritage.
