Dolphins lose prop Tom Flegler to injury for cross-town contest with Brisbane Broncos on Friday night

Wayne Bennett’s Dolphins are experiencing deja vu as prop Thomas Flegler has been ruled out of the upcoming clash against Brisbane rivals.

Flegler (shoulder) couldn’t participate in the team’s captain’s run on Thursday, adding to the injury list alongside Herbie Farnworth (shoulder) and Felise Kaufusi (hamstring) for the table-topping Dolphins.

ABC Sport will provide live coverage of every round of the AFL and NRL seasons in 2024.

Lock Max Plath and utility Kurt Donoghoe are suspended for the upcoming Lang Park match on Friday night.

Lachlan Hubner, a 24-year-old middle forward, will make his NRL debut as Flegler’s replacement.

“Tom won’t be playing due to his arm injury, but Lachlan has been with us for two years and has played some trial matches as well,” Bennett stated.

“We’ve always been impressed with him, and it’s a great opportunity for him. With our shortage of middles, he fits the bill.”

Last year, the Dolphins faced challenges before and during their 18-12 loss to Brisbane in round four, with key players missing due to suspensions and injuries.

Despite setbacks, Bennett remains focused on the upcoming match and the significance of local derbies in sports.

SummaryLeading criminal lawyer Avinash Singh argues that harsher penalties for youth knife crime will not effectively reduce incidents without addressing the underlying socio-economic issues driving young people to carry knives, often for self-defense. Many youth involved in knife offenses come from lower socio-economic backgrounds and have a mistrust of police, leading them to feel unsafe reporting crimes. Singh emphasizes that meaningful change requires community resources and programs rather than merely stricter laws, as evidenced by...
