Rights groups have criticised the repatriation drive, warning that mass expulsions risk endangering vulnerable people.
Pakistan has repatriated over 80,000 Afghan nationals since April 1, with a crackdown on illegal immigrants initiated in late 2023, which has drawn criticism for its potential risks to vulnerable populations. Authorities assert this drive is linked to national security, despite accusations from Kabul of forced deportations and rising concerns from human rights groups about the dangers facing returnees, particularly women and children. A high-level delegation from Pakistan is set to visit Kabul to discuss bilateral relations amid this ongoing crisis.
