Spain renews support for Morocco’s autonomy plan in the Sahara region, Morocco says  – Middle East Monitor

Spain has reaffirmed its support for Morocco’s 2007 autonomy plan for the Sahara region during a meeting between Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares in Madrid. Albares described the Moroccan proposal as the “most serious, realistic, and credible basis” for resolving the conflict, emphasizing Spain’s recognition of the Sahara issue’s significance to Morocco and its commitment to finding a solution under UN auspices. This development follows a period of strained relations between Spain and Morocco, which improved after Spain’s endorsement of the autonomy initiative in March 2022.
