Power has been restored to over 40% of Puerto Rico following a significant blackout that left 1.4 million customers without electricity and 328,000 without water. The outage, triggered by a disturbance in the transmission system, disrupted major services, including airports and hospitals, leading to increased calls for government action against current energy providers. Governor Jenniffer Gonzalez emphasized the unacceptability of such outages, which contribute to substantial economic losses and affect vulnerable populations, as officials aim to restore nearly all power within 72 hours.
