Oppo Reno 11 series is set to receive its first artificial intelligence (AI) feature soon – the AI Eraser. The company introduced its own large language model (LLM) AndesGPT in November 2023 to develop AI features for its smartphones internally. Following this, a range of AI features was introduced in the Oppo Find X7 series. In February 2024, Oppo announced that these features would be gradually rolled out to other Oppo devices, starting with the Reno 11 series. Now, the company has started the global rollout of the first AI feature.
The AI Eraser feature was initially launched in the Reno 11 series in China earlier this month, but it was not available globally. However, Oppo has now officially confirmed that the feature will be made available on all devices worldwide. Billy Zhang, President of Overseas Marketing, Sales and Services at Oppo, made the announcement on X (formerly known as Twitter), stating, “We’re thrilled to introduce the Oppo AI Eraser to international users. More individuals will have the opportunity to experience this accessible and advanced technology.”
The AI Eraser is a photo editing tool located within the built-in gallery app. Users can circle any object in the background, and the AI will remove it while preserving the background elements. This feature can be handy for eliminating unwanted individuals or objects from cherished images. It is similar to Google’s Magic Eraser and Samsung’s Object Eraser.
Furthermore, the Oppo Reno 11 series is likely to receive more AI features besides the AI Eraser. The ColorOS New Year Edition update in China in February 2024 introduced numerous AI features, which were extended to the Reno 11 series, Reno 10 series, Find N3, Find N3 Flip, and various OnePlus models.
In addition to the AI Eraser, other introduced features include an AI Call Summary function that generates a written summary of calls with timestamps after the call ends, an AI image generator, an AI greeting card creator, and more. These features may also be rolled out in the upcoming months.
