Researchers at the University of Waterloo have developed two new urinal designs, the Cornucopia and the Nautilus, which aim to reduce splashback to just 1.4% compared to standard models by maintaining an impinging stream angle below 30 degrees. Inspired by natural phenomena and everyday observations, the designers, Zhao Pan and Randy Hurd, noted that existing urinals contribute to significant splashback, creating about a million liters daily across the U.S. Their innovations could potentially save up to $10,000 annually per bathroom in cleaning costs.
