In Bihar, devastating thunderstorms and lightning strikes have resulted in 80 fatalities over the past two days, with 66 deaths reported after midnight, marking an increase from the yearly average of 250 deaths from natural disasters. Nalanda recorded the highest number of deaths at 23, with severe damage to crops and structures, while a lack of awareness among villagers and climate change were cited as contributing factors to the rising death toll. A recent study identified four regions in Bihar with high vulnerability to lightning strikes, emphasizing the need for increased public awareness and preparedness to mitigate future disasters.
