Far-right Alternative für Deutschland tops federal poll in Germany for first time
The far-right Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) has topped the latest Ipsos poll with 25% support, surpassing the CDU/CSU at 24% as coalition talks between the conservatives and Social Democrats (SPD) near completion. This marks a historic first for the AfD, which has gained traction amid Germany’s political limbo and economic challenges. Co-leader Alice Weidel emphasized the public’s demand for change, rejecting the notion of a “business as usual” coalition between the CDU/CSU and SPD.
