Becoming HC judge is tougher now: Less than 50% make it

The Supreme Court collegium, under the leadership of CJI Sanjiv Khanna, has implemented stricter selection criteria for High Court judges, resulting in a significant decrease in the approval rate of recommended lawyers. Previously, nearly 90% of HC collegia recommendations were accepted, but now less than 50% are successful following mandatory interviews. This change has led to a more rigorous and selective process in appointing judges to the High Courts.
