Scientists sound alarm over hidden factor behind debilitating disease: ‘Previously unknown associations’

Research published in Nature Communications indicates that certain chemicals can influence multiple sclerosis (MS) risk and progression. Blood samples from 907 MS patients revealed that hydroxylated polychlorinated biphenyls (OH-PCBs) increase MS risk, while per- and polyfluorinated substances (PFAS) like PFOA and PFOS may slow disease progression, particularly in men. To reduce PFAS exposure, individuals can opt for non-stick alternatives, avoid stain-resistant treatments, and use PFAS-free products, enhancing health while saving costs.
