Monica Smirk, the mother of beloved Perth teenager Amelia “Milli” Lucas who died of brain cancer in 2021, has also lost her own battle with terminal melanoma, marking her fourth cancer diagnosis. The family suffers from Li-Fraumeni syndrome, with Monica losing multiple family members to the disease. Despite raising funds for surgery by neurosurgeon Charlie Teo, Monica passed away in April 2025, leaving behind her husband and two sons to mourn her loss.
