Labor gains: polling shows majority government in sight

Labor is currently leading the coalition 52 to 48 per cent on a two-party-preferred basis according to the latest Newspoll, with a one percentage point improvement since the previous poll. Multiple polls show a surge in support for the government over the coalition as party leaders campaign ahead of the May 3 election, with Labor also leading in other polls such as the Redbridge and Accent Research poll and the first YouGov poll. Anthony Albanese maintains a lead over Peter Dutton as preferred prime minister, with the coalition losing ground since January in primary vote percentages.
