How much greener did Canada’s homes get? Report takes a closer look at federal rebate program

The Canada Greener Homes Grant provided $2.6 billion for green upgrades to Canadian homes, but a report by Green Communities Canada suggests it fell short in reducing greenhouse gas emissions due to inadequate savings and lack of retrofits. The program offered up to $5,000 per household for improvements like heat pumps and solar panels, resulting in 366,786 completed retrofits and 704,000 tonnes of greenhouse gases reduced. However, the report found a decline in insulation upgrades, as many homeowners couldn’t afford the recommended improvements.
