RAF ban on 'exploding' Tunnock's teacakes lifted after 60 years

RAF pilots have been advised to keep Tunnock’s teacakes in their wrappers after a cockpit marshmallow explosion 60 years ago led to a ban on the treats. However, tests conducted by the RAF Centre of Aerospace Medicine have now cleared the teacakes for flight, confirming they did not explode in altitude chamber experiments. Pilots are recommended to keep the teacakes frozen and in foil wrappings until consumption, according to Dr. Oliver Bird, with Tunnock’s sales director expressing relief that pilots can now enjoy the treats with official approval.
