Bulgaria’s government, led by the center-right GERB party, survived a parliamentary no-confidence vote brought by a pro-Russia party criticizing the nation’s foreign policy, including its pro-Western stance and support for Ukraine. The motion, backed by two nationalist groups, was defeated in a 150-54 vote, with analysts predicting the outcome due to the majority supporting Bulgaria’s pro-European orientation. Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov stated that the vote reaffirmed Bulgaria’s European perspective and democratic development, despite attempts to derail the country’s integration goals, including adopting the euro currency in 2026.
