The crash between the Stena Immaculate and the Solong in the North Sea was found to have occurred without dedicated lookouts on board the vessels in patchy conditions, according to a report by the Marine Accident Investigation Branch. The incident resulted in fires and a successful rescue operation, saving 36 crew members but leaving one missing and presumed dead. The captain of the Solong has been charged with gross negligence manslaughter and is set to stand trial in January 2026.
