Greece vows to spend $27B on armed forces overhaul centered on high-tech warfare technology

Greece is planning to spend 25 billion euros over the next decade to modernize its military with a focus on high-tech warfare technologies, including the development of an air defense system named “Achilles Shield” to address tensions with Turkey. The overhaul will involve a shift to AI-powered missile systems, drone technologies, and advanced command units, as well as the inclusion of new soldier gear and satellite capabilities for secure communications. The initiative also includes personnel reorganization, collaboration with tech start-ups, and a focus on cooperation with France, Israel, and the United States to enhance Greece’s defense capabilities.
