Greece to ban having children via surrogacy for single men and male same-sex couples

In Greece, men in same-sex relationships or who are single will be prohibited from using surrogacy to have children, in an effort to clarify the concept of inability to carry a pregnancy, according to Justice Minister Giorgos Floridis. The proposed changes, part of a broader civil code reform, aim to eliminate legal ambiguity and will be submitted to parliament soon. Greece legalized same-sex marriage in 2015, despite opposition from the Orthodox Church, making it the first Orthodox Christian-majority country to do so, while the legal landscape for surrogacy in Europe varies widely with many countries either prohibiting or imposing restrictions on the practice.
