Kevin Willard has accepted an offer to become the next head coach at Villanova, ending his successful three-year tenure at Maryland, where he led the Terrapins to two NCAA tournament appearances and a Sweet 16 run this season. Willard cited the need for fundamental changes within the program as his reason for not signing a new contract with Maryland. His move to Villanova comes after the departure of Kyle Neptune, who failed to reach the NCAA tournament during his three-year tenure, and marks Willard’s return to the Big East conference where he previously coached Seton Hall to five NCAA tournament appearances.
