Gordon Brown’s former national security adviser criticized Donald Trump’s team as “unbelievably stupid” after a journalist was mistakenly added to a group chat discussing plans to strike the Houthis in Yemen. The incident was described as “absolutely extraordinary” and an “appalling breach of security” by retired admiral Lord West of Spithead and former defence secretary Sir Malcolm Rifkind. Despite calls for a review of intelligence-sharing arrangements with the US, senior officials in the Trump administration were reported to have discussed a sensitive operation targeting Houthi positions in Yemen with emojis indicating support for the strikes, which resulted in at least 53 casualties.
