Significant progress has been made in TB diagnostics in the African region, but many still lack access to modern testing due to limited infrastructure and high costs. WHO expert Dr Jean de Dieu Iragena discusses the need to bring advanced technologies closer to people to effectively manage challenges like MDR-TB. Advances in rapid molecular diagnostic methods like GeneXpert and genome sequencing, along with enhanced treatment protocols, are key to controlling TB. Countries and individuals can avert MDR-TB by implementing new treatment regimens and ensuring early diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Funding mechanisms must be sustained to continue progress in TB control efforts.
