State board rejects plan to eliminate inpatient psychiatric services at Northwest Community Hospital

State regulators rejected Endeavor Health’s request to close the inpatient psychiatric unit at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board voted against the closure due to concerns about access to mental health care and impact on emergency department wait times. Endeavor had planned to shut down the unit citing decreased demand and cost pressures following financial losses related to settling claims of sexual abuse by a former doctor.
