Melbourne’s long-awaited airport rail link has been confirmed as a “done deal” after a three-way feud was resolved, with commitments from the state and federal governments sparking an agreement with Melbourne Airport to move the project forward. The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding was triggered by the federal government’s commitment to extra funding for upgrades to Sunshine Station, with a steering committee of senior officials set up to finalize the construction process. Once completed, passengers will be able to reach the airport from the CBD in about half an hour, traveling through Sunshine towards the tarmac.
