John “Paddy” Hemingway, the last surviving pilot of the Battle of Britain, passed away at 105 in Dublin. A Royal Air Force member during World War II, Hemingway was twice forced to bail out of his Hurricane fighter during dogfights with German aircraft in August 1940. Despite his Distinguished Flying Cross for gallantry in 1941, Hemingway humbly attributed his survival to luck rather than bravery.
