Part of the Rideau Canal Skateway opened for skating on Thursday, attracting thousands despite the cold. As of Saturday morning, an additional 800 metres will be accessible, bringing the total open distance to 4.2 kilometres, with more than half of the full 7.8-kilometre route now available. Capital Skate rentals will start at the Rideau rest area, while BeaverTail’s opening remains pending. Last winter, the Skateway had a total of 52 days of operation, attracting over 1.1 million visitors.
