In a decisive 12-0 mercy-rule victory over No. 3 Laney, Roberson’s senior pitcher Micah Simpson delivered a six-inning shutout, leading his team to a chance at history by becoming the first 4A team in NCHSAA to win three consecutive baseball championships. With significant contributions from sophomore Parker Filipek, who drove in key runs, Roberson is now set to play Game 2 of the best-of-three series on May 31, needing one more win to secure the title. Coach Eric Filipek praised Simpson as one of the state’s finest pitchers, while Simpson expressed the desire to conclude his high school career on a high note.
