Leading up to the 2025 NFL draft, Ole Miss cornerback Trey Amos was projected as a first or early second-round pick, but surprisingly fell to the Washington Commanders at No. 61 overall. General manager Adam Peters initially considered taking Amos at No. 29, but concerns about a back injury during the predraft process caused his slide, though the Commanders did not see it as a significant issue. Head coach Dan Quinn stated that the team was comfortable with Amos’ health, who himself reported feeling good and showed no limitations during rookie minicamp.
