Heavy rain has caused surface flooding in Auckland, leading to hazardous driving conditions and delays for dozens of flights at Auckland Airport. A severe thunderstorm warning was issued by the MetService for parts of the city, which has since been lifted, but thunderstorms and heavy downpours are expected across the North Island later today. Heavy rain warnings are currently in effect for Northland, Bay of Plenty, Gisborne, Tongariro National Park, and Taranaki, while watches are placed for Waikato, Nelson, Wellington, Kāpiti Coast, and various other regions.
