On May 22, 2025, divers John Ryan and his team confirmed the long-rumored presence of a 1920s Essex sedan at the bottom of Lake Minnewanka in Banff National Park, located nearly 60 meters deep. Using sonar technology, they located the vehicle, which was reported to have fallen through the ice in the late 1920s, and found it in just seven minutes despite poor visibility. The discovery has sparked interest in possibly uncovering more submerged artifacts in the lake, including rumors of two additional vehicles hidden in its depths.
