Auckland and Northland are under a severe thunderstorm watch from 1-9pm today due to a stationary front causing instability in the region. MetService meteorologist Michael Pawley warns of heavy rain and marble-sized hail, with a moderate risk of severe thunderstorms bringing 24-40mm/h downpours in isolated areas.
