A 62-year-old man, Warren Gray, has lost his appeal to avoid prison after stealing hundreds of pairs of men’s underwear from student flats in Dunedin. He was sentenced to 20 months’ imprisonment for two burglary charges and one charge of possessing objectionable material. Gray argued that the sentence was excessively harsh and sought home detention instead. However, Justice Preston upheld the original ruling, following reports of clothing thefts from student laundries between June and August last year.
