New national data indicates that Indigenous-owned businesses are significantly contributing to Australia’s economy, with a record $5.83 billion directed to verified Indigenous suppliers in the 2024–25 financial year, a $1.23 billion increase from the previous year. Most of this funding supported small and medium-sized enterprises across various sectors, with mining and construction leading in procurement spend. For every dollar generated by these businesses, $3.66 of social and economic value is created, enhancing local economies and promoting self-determination within Indigenous communities.
