A 5.4-magnitude earthquake struck a rural area of West Texas and southeastern New Mexico on Saturday night, with the epicenter located approximately 35 miles south of Whites City, New Mexico. The earthquake, initially reported as 5.3, occurred at a depth of 3.9 miles and was felt widely, but no damage reports were received, according to Eddy County emergency manager Jennifer Armendariz. Following the quake, nearly 1,500 responses were logged by the USGS, along with two smaller aftershocks measuring 2.9 in magnitude.
