The mummy provided researchers with the opportunity to study physical characteristics of the extinct species, Homotherium latidens, for the first time. The kitten had unique features like a massive neck, unusual muzzle shape, small ears, large mouth opening, and elongated forelimbs. Additionally, differences were found in the paws compared to modern lion cubs, with wider paws and no carpal pads. Scientists believe these adaptations helped the saber-toothed cat navigate thick snow.
