Weather: South Island in the firing line as front sweeps in from Tasman Sea

Severe weather warnings have been issued as a front from the Tasman Sea approaches the South Island, bringing expected rain and wind. MetService has warned of heavy rain in Westland, Canterbury, and Otago, with a significant downpour predicted for a 16-hour period starting at 2pm on Sunday, potentially reaching up to 190mm. Additionally, heavy rain watches are in effect for Grey and Buller ranges, while strong wind watches are issued for the Canterbury High Country and Marlborough.
