EU warns over unsafe cosmetics imported from China

The European Commission has reported a significant increase in unsafe products detected in the EU, primarily from China, with over 4,000 alerts in the past year, the highest since 2003. Cosmetics represented 36% of these dangerous items, often containing harmful chemicals like BMHCA, which is banned in the EU. To address this surge, the commission proposed holding e-commerce firms accountable for unsafe products, ending the customs duty exemption for low-value imports, and establishing an EU customs authority, while Italy had the highest number of product alerts.
