Israel Ranks High in Jailing Journalists

A new report from the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has ranked Israel as the third worst jailer of journalists globally, following China and Myanmar, highlighting its systematic repression of Palestinian media workers. The report notes that since the onset of the Israel-Gaza war in October 2023, Israel has arrested over 90 journalists and denied international access to Gaza, where it faces accusations of genocide. CPJ also revealed that many journalists are held under administrative detention without formal charges, a practice condemned by human rights organizations. Additionally, Israel is noted for the high number of torture claims against prisoners, ranking just behind Iran.
