Lebanese President Joseph Aoun announced that civilian-led ceasefire negotiations with Israel will resume on December 19. A delegation, headed by former ambassador Simon Karam, recently participated in a ceasefire monitoring committee meeting alongside an Israeli team. Aoun highlighted the importance of negotiation over conflict, noting that previous violence has resulted in significant casualties. Although a ceasefire was established in November 2024, Israel has only partially withdrawn from southern Lebanon, maintaining a presence at several border outposts.
