Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has officially requested a presidential pardon for his ongoing corruption charges, which he argues is in the public interest to reduce divisive debate. The request, which includes letters from both Netanyahu and his lawyer, will be reviewed by the Justice Ministry and the president’s legal counsel before a final decision by President Isaac Herzog. Netanyahu, who denies the charges, is the first sitting Israeli leader to face trial and is also dealing with allegations of war crimes related to the Gaza conflict. US President Donald Trump has urged Herzog to grant the pardon.
