Two men in Indonesia’s Aceh province were publicly caned for gay sex, marking the fourth time the region has enforced Shariah law for homosexuality since 2006. The men, aged 24 and 18, received 82 and 77 lashes respectively after being caught naked and hugging in their rented room. Aceh, the only province in Indonesia practicing Shariah law, also punishes gambling and other moral offenses with caning, drawing criticism from human rights groups and the central government.
