At least 19 people have died from Naegleria fowleri infections in Kerala, India, with cases of primary amoebic meningoencephalitis (PAM) rising to 61 this year, a 70% increase from 2024. Health officials attribute the surge to climate change, urging precautions when swimming in warm freshwater to prevent the rare but fatal brain infection.
