Yorkshire’s £14 Billion Rail Transformation Proposal
A £14 billion plan proposed by Lord Blunkett aims to revamp Yorkshire’s railway system by enhancing capacity at key stations like Leeds and Sheffield, establishing new stations, and electrifying lines. The first phase requires £2.4 billion from the government by 2030, in addition to £2.5 billion for a tram network. The investment could boost the regional economy by £20 billion and create 83,000 jobs, while local leaders stress the urgent need for improved rail connectivity to support economic growth and meet the needs of future generations.
