NEW DELHI: Sunali Khatun, a 26-year-old domestic worker from West Bengal, was detained during an identity verification drive in Delhi despite providing valid documents to prove her Indian nationality. After her deportation to Bangladesh with her husband and son, they faced severe hardships and were imprisoned for months. Sunali’s father filed a habeas corpus petition in Calcutta High Court, highlighting the family’s efforts to show their Indian roots. Now back in India, Sunali lives in fear of being deported again, questioning the validity of their documents.
