Danielle Smith faces recall campaign as Alberta premier
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Elections Alberta has approved a recall petition against Premier Danielle Smith, joining 19 other UCP MLAs targeted by signature drives that could lead to special elections. The recall movement, initially seen as a political stunt, has gained traction, with local organizers potentially amassing enough signatures. Although the UCP considered changing the Recall Act, they decided to allow the petitions to proceed, which may backfire. The grassroots campaign, led by Operation Total Recall, aims to recall 44 UCP members who supported using the notwithstanding clause during a recent teachers’ strike.
