Kashmir Book Ban Explained by High Court to LG Admin and Centre
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has given the Union Territory administration and the Centre three months to respond to petitions challenging a ban on 25 Kashmir-related books, imposed by LG Manoj Sinha on August 5, 2023. The ban, which cites concerns over promoting a “false narrative” and “secessionism,” has faced criticism for violating free speech rights. The petitions include works by notable authors like Arundhati Roy and Tariq Ali, and the court has ordered replies by February 11, 2026. The home department claims that such literature contributes to youth violence and terrorism.
